Dunas Golf Club

Dunas Golf Club was the scene of an unprecedented encounter with the Caddies that culminated in an exciting play-off between three players.

The art of caddying has been central to golf almost if the game already existed. The notion of walking on the fairway with someone carrying your suitcase, offering you insight and assistance, is an indelible part of the sport. The most famous caddies are as well known as the players - Luiz Carlos Pinto, who looped many amateurs at the Itanhanga Open on several occasions despite being only 11 years old, or Antonio Nascimento who grabbed the Togawa Bag for one of his several wins. Luiz Martins more excited with "Tampinha" who accompanied Roberto Davis, Gustavo Bertaso, Eduardo Dadao in several important events in southern Brazil. Acacio Pedro, Antonio Evangelista, Federico German, Eduardo Caballero, all notorious loopers of several players, who became great and talented professionals.

Caddies are an essential component of golf. And it is the case of clubs in the south of the country, especially Club Campestre and Dunas Golf Club de Pelotas, where caddies have been part of the club throughout its history. And even when caddies are out of fashion in most Brazilian clubs - only a few offer caddies for members and guests for longer - Club Campestre maintains a vibrant caddy program, intrinsic to the club's identity.

"As far as I know, caddies have been part of Club Campestre de Pelotas since the club exists," says Luiz Martins, a former caddy who became one of the most award-winning professionals in the history of the category in Brazil.

Luiz worked as a caddy at PACC. According to Luiz, “The golf boom between wars saw the peak of the school caddy. Many came from families where the money they earned from transportation was needed to help them survive.

The city boy finished the morning paper and went to the nearest club, trying to win 10 cruzeiros per round. Also looking to become a golfer as good as anyone he carried. " Luiz became a great caddie and professional and does not forget his origins in the sport where many in the first half of the 20th century, added that “each caddy was accompanied by other small caddies that brandished clubs alarmingly close to each other's heads, in a vain effort to master the art of perfect balance in a few moments. " Caddies have always been important in Brazilian golf. A circuit was created that started in Pelotas-RS.

The LMGS has adopted the idea and will help and sponsor these talented southern caddies.

This first stage was held at the Dunas Golf Club facilities and field and was attended by players from Pelotas, Rio Grande and Porto Alegre.

A team effort where the efforts of professionals Claudio Martins and Luiz Fernando Lopes (LMGS Pro), Carlos Roberto Oliveira Ramos and Rodrigo Severo shone.

The classification is thus: Category A

1 Rodrigo Severo 72 Play Off
2 Rodinei Padilha
3 Luiz Fernando Lopes

Category B

1 Divonei Valadao
2 Renato Povoa
3 Wellington da silva

Congratulations to everyone and the reminder is to keep in mind that the next tournament will be the LMGS Caddies Cup.
